French drain installation

For French drain installation on the North Shore of Montreal (Blainville, Terrebonne, Sainte-Thérèse, Saint-Eustache and other cities), trust Fissure 640.

This system is a reliable way to protect a foundation from water infiltration, excess moisture and water pressure that deteriorates concrete.

A properly installed French drain redirects groundwater away from foundation walls, reducing the risk of basement water infiltration, persistent moisture issues and long-term structural damage.

For over 35 years, Fissure 640 has been offering French drain installation and replacement services, adapting to the conditions of each property.

We hold a Régie du bâtiment license (no. 5615-4115-01) and carry out all our work in compliance with municipal standards and Building Code requirements.

A drainage system that makes a difference

At Fissure 640, we begin by assessing the current condition of your drainage system. If necessary, we perform a full excavation around the foundation to install a new French drain.

The French drain system is installed using high-quality materials to ensure optimal performance and long-term protection.

Why does a French drain become necessary?

Over time, a French drain can lose efficiency due to material aging, soil movement, sediment buildup or improper installation.

In many older properties, drains were made of clay or concrete. These materials can crack, collapse or become clogged, significantly reducing their ability to drain water.

When drainage no longer works properly, water accumulates around the foundation. This buildup increases hydrostatic pressure against concrete walls and promotes infiltration through cracks or porous areas.

Heavy rainfall, combined with repeated freeze and thaw cycles, further worsens the situation.

Ignoring these signs can lead to recurring water infiltration, deterioration of interior materials and, over time, more serious structural issues. Addressing drainage problems helps stabilize the environment around the foundation and prevents further damage.

Complete French drain installation process

At Fissure 640, every project begins with a detailed evaluation of the existing system and site conditions. When replacement is required, a full excavation is performed around the foundation down to the footing to ensure full access and proper installation depth.

Once the foundation wall is exposed, it is carefully cleaned. A Blueskin waterproofing membrane is applied directly to the surface to create a continuous and flexible barrier against water. This membrane is designed to withstand soil movement and temperature variations.

A Delta MS drainage panel is then installed over the membrane. It creates a controlled space that allows water to flow downward while protecting the waterproofing layer from soil pressure during backfilling.

A perforated pipe is installed at the base of the foundation, at the footing level, to effectively capture groundwater. This pipe is surrounded by clean ¾-inch crushed stone, which promotes optimal drainage and prevents clogging from soil particles.

The excavation is then carefully backfilled to ensure ground stability and long-term system performance.

Why is proper installation crucial?

A poorly installed drainage system may appear to function at first, but issues can develop over time. An improper slope or inadequate backfilling can compromise drainage efficiency.

At Fissure 640, every installation is completed according to industry standards. We pay close attention to every detail, carefully calculating the slope and selecting appropriate materials.

This ensures reliable long-term performance.

French drain installation cost

The cost of French drain installation typically ranges between $130 and $150 per linear foot.

Pricing depends on excavation depth, site accessibility, soil conditions and overall project complexity (soil replacement, underground infrastructure, etc.).

If access is limited or the foundation is deep, additional time will be required to complete the work. An on-site evaluation allows us to accurately determine the cost and provide you with a clear estimate.
